Do you know my real story?
A lot of fadas say I'm just a legend, they must have a hard time believing that a woman is good for anything other than children and housework, especially a girl from the people. Daughter of a poor fisherman born in Nice in 1510, I had to quickly learn to survive and since I was 14 I have been doing the bugadiera on the banks of my tortuous paillon whose soap water I disturb. I don't even have time to meet a suitor, under the scorching sun or the pouring rain, I wash the clothes of the rich, and I knock, I knock with my massola on the sheets so that they come out really white. So my arms have become as big as your thighs and hard as iron, in Nice you can't find a more relentless bugadiera than me.

The day of the feast of the Blessed Virgin arrives, August 15, 1543. Nice is besieged by the troops of Barbarossa, the most terrible of pirates, with whom the King of France has made an alliance in order to be able to conquer our good city.
The city is on fire and blood, looted, bruised by the Janissaries. Me, I can't stay at home, I want to help, I'm on the Sincario rampart and there I see a Turkish soldier, moustachioed, all turbaned, one of those who scare my bugadiere girlfriends so much - I fear them less than my angry Paillon – getting ready to plant his flag on the rampart.
My blood is racing, I brandish my massola and I strike him a violent blow on the head, smashing his skull, I then tear off his flag, and I tear it up.

I hear cries of jubilation rising from everywhere. Incredible, in anger, I pulverized this standard bearer with a simple massola. No, I didn't show my buttocks like some viper tongues like to tell to discredit me. As galvanized the whole neighborhood resists, from the Porte Pairolière to the Sincaire tower, passing through … is in turmoil, other bugadiera following me attack soldiers with their massola, like tigresses, they throw themselves at several Turks knock them to the ground, stealing their weapons, their banners, men running from all sides, armed with the means at hand, scare the assailants away.
It's a bit of a rout among the besiegers, the district breathes better even if Barbarossa's galleys are still in port.

Since August 15, I haven't returned home, we are resisting the assailant fiercely and when the troops of the Duke of Savoy come to liberate the city, we all celebrate together at the hasty departure of the Franco-Turkish army. Those who had taken sides with the French will be well punished, the vanquished today are the victors of tomorrow. This is how since the vigil in Nice, it is said that all alone I routed an entire army, me, catarina, simple bugadiera. Who knows perhaps even that this discomfiture of Barbarossa with such an impressive headgear was born the mocking expression "l'as pagat lou capeu?" »

I am no stranger to the fact that between Nice and Savoy, a beautiful love story has been woven over the centuries. The Royal Road, will be called rue Victor, it is the current avenue of the Republic and will be decorated from 1786 with a monumental door, of very baroque style placed at the level of the current rue Barla, a work by the architect Pietro Bonvicini.

7 months since Mahsa Amini, 22, was beaten to death by the Iranian morality police because her veil revealed a lock of hair.
7 months that even under the snow, Iranian women without veils and Iranians demand freedom by chanting “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî”, risking their skin.
After mock trials, confessions extracted under torture, many demonstrators have been executed for their participation in the protest movement and a hundred other demonstrators risk suffering the same fate, being executed and hanged from a crane in public, many minors languish in detention.
Across the country, schoolgirls, middle and high school students have been poisoned with toxic chemicals to prevent them from attending school.
More than ever our support for freedom demonstrators in Iran is important, it is not our freedom champions Catarina and Pepin who will be able to say the opposite.
